Book a Date With Squash: A ‘Date Night’ Idea for Two

Sally Archibald, founder of Courter

Founder of Courter. Started playing squash as an adult and couldn't find a female coach, so she built a way to find one.

“We would really like to have our first session together.”

That came from a couple who booked a Courter session for their ‘date night’. They wanted to start a new activity together, something they could keep doing after the lesson had ended. They wanted skills they could put into practice straight away, and something that would engage their bodies in new ways.

It got me thinking about what makes a good date, because I’ve been on a few.

‘Date night’ ideas I’ve tried

I have hit baseballs in a cage (or missed baseballs in a cage). I have played mini golf, with all the frustrations that come with it. I have gone walking, which gives you time for conversation and for silence. I have got drunk in a pub, although it never seems worth it the next day.

I have marvelled at historic landmarks. I attempted a coached padel session in April, and it’s probably one for the summer months. I have experienced a tasting menu, and the bill. The list goes on.

What the best dates have in common

Most of us have done the pub date and the cinema, and some of us have been brave enough for life drawing.

But what do you and your partner actually want from a date? Connection? Something physical? A chance to show off a skill? Encouraging each other, or competing?

Dates don’t have to look like they always have. There’s a trend for trying something completely new, stepping out of your comfort zone and being a bit vulnerable together. But the best ones still leave you feeling you’ve achieved something. You’ve learnt a new skill, and you’ve done something good for your mind and body.

Why squash works as a date

You can learn a lot about yourself and your partner on a squash court. How they listen, how they pick up new skills, how they handle a challenge, how they have fun, how they support you and compete with you. It’s a great way to get to know each other, or to grow even closer.

Finding something new can be challenging, so I’ll make it easy for you. Book a date with squash. Courter is the perfect introduction to get you and your partner started.

How Squash for 2 works

Squash for 2 is a coached session for you and your partner with one of our female coaches. Neither of you needs to have played before. Your coach can bring rackets, so all you need is a pair of trainers and comfortable clothing.

You choose the venue and the time, and we book the court. It’s indoors too, so it works as well on a wet day in November as it does in June.

“We left feeling confident enough to book a court ourselves and excited to make squash a regular part of our routine.”

Starting is easy with Courter. Book for you and your partner with a qualified coach.

Common questions

What do we need to bring?
Trainers and comfortable clothes. Your coach can bring rackets.

Is the court included?
Yes. You choose the venue and the time, and we book the court.

Is Courter only for women?
No. Every Courter coach is a qualified female coach, and sessions are open to everyone. Squash for 2 is for any couple.
